We can all celebrate the amazing feat of training 21 Community  Health Worker Instructors in a very short time.

Congratulations

to the new instructors,

their colleagues who have been filling-in while they were in training,

the center directors for their support and commitment to this challenging opportunity,

and the new AHECers, coordinators, instructors and CHWs that have joined our AHEC family

Special thanks to Debbie Warren – Wow you were fantastic.

Helen Miner – It is quite a feat to be the student of the curriculum you wrote yourself.

Amanda Scarbrough – You joined our team at the perfect time!

Leslie Hargrove –  Your incredible work is benefiting us all.

Steve Shelton – this 2-decade passion is really taking off. We are glad for your visionary perseverance!

I want to thank each of you for your planning, preparation, and participation in the Clerkship Directors meeting at UTMB yesterday afternoon. The meeting process went very well, other than the limited capacity of the wireless network we attempted to connect through.. The meeting met several of the objectives we anticipated. We were able to demonstrate interactive use of Adobe Connect. We demonstrated widespread participation, which was key to understanding that AHEC consists of real people distributed across our service region. We communicated the capability of AHEC in supporting student placements in community. We heard discussion of the status of UTMB clerkship student placements. We had the opportunity to continue to work individually with clerkship course directors to help address their needs.

I have the following take-aways from the meeting:

Adobe Connect will work for us in ways we do not yet know. ACTION: We need to learn more about lighting and framing to enhance...

We are a little over a week out of boot camp, our ETxAHEC social media/marketing workshop. Each of those participating should have shared their new-found knowledge and demonstrated what was learned about social media tools with everyone in their own AHEC operation by now! If not, don’t let it get cold!

The workshop provided by Mark Marosits and Andrea Hill from Worldways Social Marketing, http://www.e-worldways.com, provided an excellent foundation for understanding the principles driving the new wave of social marketing and introduced us to the tools and practices now or soon available to reach people. Their style fit well with our own organizational culture, and their language made it easy for us to listen and learn. Check these two out online. They are pretty cool folks!  They could work for any AHEC and fit right in! Some of my take-aways are as follows:

·         The web is no longer just for presenting, warehousing, and delivering information....

What we accept for granted every day defines our reality. My reality has been changed for the short-term. How short that term lasts depends on my own adaptation, adjustment toward your normal, what I choose to accept for myself and those around me. The term also is affected by the extent to which my own work helping others into better situations progresses. I am hopeful because of the progress I note each and every day toward better conditions.

Today I went to work work! Instead of my ‘mud clothes’ uniform that I take off and put straight in the washer and put back on the next morning, I stood in the closet and deliberated on what to wear to the office…an old routine. The uniform sure was quicker. I put on makeup and earrings….an old routine.
